On 29 October 2026, on-chain watchers flagged that the Binance hot wallet known as "Binance 14" (0x28c6…1d60) had been swept on Ethereum, with reports putting the outflow at roughly $2.5 billion or more across dozens of tokens. The calling address was reported to have been funded through Tornado Cash (Spreek on X, Trevor I. Lasn on X). A public Ethereum node queried by cz.wiki at about 21:10 UTC showed the wallet holding 1 ETH and carrying an EIP-7702 delegation. Cointelegraph described it as an alleged $2.77 billion hack (Cointelegraph on X).
Binance said its teams were "aware of reports of a potential security issue" and actively investigating, adding that "at this stage, we have not confirmed any impact to user funds" (Binance on X). Co-founder Yi He posted a similar statement ending "User Funds SAFU" (Yi He on X).
Changpeng Zhao wrote: "User funds are safe! It does look like a hack on Binance." He thanked Tether (about $971 million) and Circle (about $823 million) for quick freezes, and added that he doesn't manage Binance.com anymore but, as a shareholder, expects all user funds to be fully covered (CZ on X).
Update (22:10 UTC): Cointelegraph now reports that approximately $5.7 billion left Binance-linked wallets across Ethereum, Bitcoin and Tron (Cointelegraph on X); CoinDesk called it a multi-billion-dollar hack hitting crypto markets (CoinDesk on X). Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino said Tether had frozen more than 1.567 billion USDT (Paolo Ardoino on X), and Circle CEO Jeremy Allaire said Circle froze more than 800 million USDC in coordination with law enforcement (Jeremy Allaire on X). CZ thanked both, calling Tether's freeze a "life saver" (CZ on X). Binance.US said it is a separate platform and not affected (Binance.US on X). Binance later said user funds are completely safe while its security team keeps investigating (Wu Blockchain on X).
Binance has not confirmed the amount or the cause, and estimates of the total are still moving. This story will be updated.
